Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Bimini in 1513 and explored the island in search of the fabled Fountain of Youth. It is said that those who bathe in Bimini waters will possess eternal youth.
In 1936, clairvoyant mystic Edgar Cayce predicted “the first signs of Atlantis rising would occur in the Bahamas , near the island of Bimini .” In 1968, a series of rectangular stones, laid out in two straight parallel rows, were discovered less than one mile off the north shore of Bimini Island.
At the easternmost end of Bimini, a natural phenomenon known as the Healing Hole connects an underground labyrinth of narrow tunnels. Some ascribe healing powers to the underwater spring high in mineral contents that spills into the creek with each outgoing tide.
The Bimini island has inspired many illustrious guests, among them Ernest Hemingway, who penned Islands in the Stream and To Have and Have Not in Bimini's famed Blue Marlin Cottage.
